Celebrity Book Club Update: April 2022

April 08, 2022 by Marian Sayer

Happy April and springtime and allergy season and new books to read! I’ll be honest, my reading life has been trash recently. It’s always interesting to see what other people are picking and choosing to highlight. These books look fun and like good contenders to dive into as the days and nights warm up. Hope you’re reading something fun!

Reese Witherspoon X Hello Sunshine - True Biz, by Sara Novic - Reading the synopsis for this I’m thinking I’ll go grab it soon. A story of deaf residential school and its students, I can’t remember ever reading or even knowing of books that have deaf characters (hello major hole in my reading life). Also adding the new Oscar winning movie, CODA to my watchlist.

Belletrist (Emma Roberts) - Cherish Farrah, by Bethany C. Morrow - Described as a slow burn horror novel that examines race and class. Sounds engaging!

Read with Jenna (Jenna Bush Hager) - Memphis, by Tara M. Stringfellow - A seventy year time frame, this book sounds like a family saga that examines that epic genre in a new light. Also a debut receiving a lot of acclaim, I’m interested to see if it lives up to the hype.

#readwithmc (Marie Claire) - The Diamond Eye, by Kate Quinn - Let’s be fully transparent here, historical fiction just isn’t my jam. This might be perfect for you though, so still check it out if it sounds good. Set in 1937 the book follows Milla as she changes history and is based on a true story.

GMA Book Club - Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus - This is billed as a satiric novel. I’m interested in the premise that takes place in the 60’s and follows a chemist as she figures out how to manage science, colleagues, motherhood, and then becomes the star of a cooking show. I’m curious and the cover promises it to be a good time, so I’m hopeful that the art matches the vibe of the content.

Ashley Spivey’s Book Club - Olga Dies Dreaming, by Xochitl Gonzalez - I have this on audio and think I’m going to try it this month and see what the discussion is like surrounding it. This was published back in January but sounds impressive. The blurb mentions the setting of 2017, and examination of political, family, and personal strife and weathering literal and personal storms of life.
