A List of Very Good Things (pt. 2)

November 01, 2022 by Marian Sayer

10 more additions to my list. Make your own. It’s a good exercise.

  1. Taking your time. Not just taking what’s left like crumbs from a car seat, but reaching your hand out to take your time in your fingers and say hey you belong to me, remember?

  2. New socks

  3. Fresh and bright horchata. And taco trucks

  4. The app “A Soft Murmur” which has amazing white noise sounds you can combine and alter to make a blend of noise all your own. I love thunder + rain + a smidge of cafe noises. Put that on for 30 minutes and I’m asleep. Put that on when I need to focus and I’m in the zone. Highly recommend.

  5. IRL friends who remind you you’re not a burden or something to be endured, and parked car conversations

  6. 12 foot tall skeletons

  7. Dragging your finger along a chain link fence for 10 seconds

  8. Internet friends

  9. When I take Harry for a walk and he looks back at me with that giant doofus grin like this moment right now is the best thing he’s ever done. That’s medicinal.

  10. Dino Nuggies.

A List of Very Good Things (pt. 1):

September 23, 2022 by Marian Sayer

With no explanation because it’s my list. Make your own (I’d love to see it).

  1. Anytime Sam Rockwell dances (or does anything really). Like here, here, or here. Look at the way he moves through space. Gawd. I’d do anything that man told me to do. He wouldn’t even have to dance first.

  2. On the subject of dance, this one that Andy Samberg does in Palm Springs. It’s the very epitome of goofy competence and I am heavily into it. Act like this around me and I’ll again, do whatever you want. Love it.

  3. The words “tenacious” and “wreckage” and “enticing” and “lush”

  4. Night walks.

  5. The moon. Every time. Every night. Every day. The moon.

  6. A car wash with rainbow lights.

  7. The sounds of a vhs tape and a vcr doing their thing. Ideally about to play the cinematic masterpiece of 1999 and possibly best movie of all time The Mummy starring our lord and savior Brenden Fraser (a bonus Very Good Thing).

  8. When roses begin to die. I like them best that way. The wilty petals, the texture, the beauty, the visible memory of time made tangible, it’s gorgeous.

  9. Carmel apple lollipops - most specifically on cold rainy Thursdays in middle school and only in the fall, but they are still tasty these days.

  10. The beginning of that Lizzo song “Cuz I Love You” right after she goes “I’m crying cuz I love you” and then it whams into your ribs with this incredible sound. I like those 10 seconds very much.
