Celebrity Book Club Update: October 2022
You’re not wrong. It’s November. But I missed October and cant just…skip it….so here it is, late, but present. And that’s fine. October kicked my shins so hard and made me write a thank you note, but that was also fine. Maybe even glorious in the long term. Anyway here’s what folks were reading last month.
Reese Witherspoon X Hello Sunshine - Our Missing Hearts, by Celeste Ng - I have a copy of this audiobook thanks to Libro.fm and am interested in it because Stephen King blurbed it. I read Ng’s first book and thought it was fine, but I missed her second one. This sounds little more genre-bending so I’m curious about it but I am not sure at all what the plot relates to besides parent/children relationships.
Belletrist (Emma Roberts) - Motherthing, by Ainslie Hogarth - This cover is to die for and I’ve seen a few trusted internet friends really enjoy it. I want to read it and am hoping I’ll actually get to it. Sounds a little creepy, a little surreal, a little literary, a little unsettling, and I’m curious again.
Read with Jenna (Jenna Bush Hager) - The Whalebone Theatre, by Joanna Quinn - I know nothing about this but the cover looks an interesting historical fiction type of deal.
GMA Book Club - Mad Honey, by Jodi Piccoult - I’ve never read Piccoult but her books check out all the time from the library.
Oprah’s Book Club - Demon Copperhead, by Barbara Kingsolver - the only Kingsolver I’ve read was The Poisonwood Bible years ago but I enjoyed that one. I have an audiobook of this also thanks to Libro.fm and I plan to listen to it eventually. Kingsolver is great at sweeping sagas, nature description, and family dynamics. This one is being summed up as David Copperfield set in Appalachia.
Ashley Spivey’s Book Club - Grace, by Cody Kennan - This is a political non-fiction about ten days in the Obama presidency. Looks informative and interesting.
